smorgasburg round four

i'm sick. something must be wrong with me. i. just. can't. stay. away. i'm talking about the fact that i've been to smorgasburg almost four consecutive weeks (with the exception of one, likely miserable, weekend). let me explain my method.

1. drag any bored soul across the east river to brooklyn on the weekend, where you will most likely be stranded with a bunch of hairy hipsters and be forced to take the ferry back (contrary to how i made it sound, the ferry is actually quite lovely)

2. enter the smorgasburg premises. anxiety ensues as you begin to scour the rows of vendors. lines 15+ people long. 7 different kinds of lemonade. 3 types of sausage. and only 1 stomach to fit it all.

3. do a walk through, with your stomach rumbling. you will either: A) go for the first mouth watering stall you see to stuff your now empty hangover stomach or B) starve yourself until you settle on the perfect bite to satisfy your brunch-y craving

4. repeat this process until fully stuffed. take a break under the minimal shade offered by prepubescent tree shrubs and open the top button of your shorts. let it out girlfriend. be free.

5. go back for more.

a day in DUMBO

it was a weekend of contrasts. compared to saturday when i ran most probably several miles playing ultimate, sunday i ate back my weight in food--but not just any food. smorgasburg food.

it's hard to put "smorgasburg" into words. think: buffet of heavenly delights here on earth surrounded by others who worship food with the same dedication and vigor as you do. or in simpler terms- a giant outdoor food market filled with a bunch of new yorkers. hands down, smorgasburg is my favorite weekend activity to do in new york. it's always my first recommendation, given that i've gone three straight weeks in a row.

what's better? smorgasburg-slash-brooklyn flea is located in several locales around this humble borough, giving manhattanites an excuse to travel across the east river into unknown territory. i must say out of all the locations--fort greene, williamsburg, dumbo, DUMBO trumps all. it is nestled in a nook right under the brooklyn bridge in an empty brick footprint of an old building, right on the waterfront, with a killer view of lower manhattan all the way up to the williamsburg bridge. just beyond the market is an expanse of green lawns sprinkled with saplings where you can recoup between binges under the precious shade.

#eeeeeats included: pigs in a blanket, vermont maple lemonade, halva spread by brooklyn sesame, faux-liver, lavender & chocolate-cardamom shortbread cookies, truffle salami, fried chicken & waffles, eggplant parm toastettes, nutella ice cream sandwich, blue marble mint ice cream, coconut sticky rice, and pupusas.
